Four suspects detained after murder of 13-year-old girl in Hesekê

Almost a month after the murder of a thirteen-year-old girl in Hesekê by family members, four suspects have been taken into custody in northeastern Syria.

Nearly a month after the murder of a thirteen-year-old girl in Hesekê by male family members, four suspects have been taken into custody in northeastern Syria. As the press office of the General Command of the Security Forces of the Autonomous Administration (Asayîş) announced on Wednesday evening, those detained are two brothers and two uncles of the underage victim. A search is still underway for another person suspected of being involved in the crime, it said.

The horror over the murder of thirteen-year-old Eida Al-Hamoudi Al-Saeedo was great and drove angry women onto the streets throughout the autonomous regions. The girl had been led by several men into a ruined neighborhood on the outskirts of the Xiwêran (Gweiran) district, located in southern Hesekê, and shot dead. For a long time, authorities in northern and eastern Syria assumed that the murder of the minor occurred on July 1. The Asayîş has corrected the information and assumes June 28 as the time of the crime.

Further details on the four arrests were not released by the northeastern Syrian security forces for investigative tactical reasons. "We as the Asayîş assure our people that we will continue to provide security and always work to uphold human rights, and we promise to fight inhumane crimes like Eida's murder until they are fully eliminated," the statement said.
