Anti-ISIS operation in Deir ez-Zor and Qamishlo

The Syrian Democratic Forces report two operations against ISIS cells in northeastern Syria. Four ISIS members and one supporter were arrested in the operations.

In a written statement, the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported operations against ISIS cells in the vicinity of Deir ez-Zor and Qamishlo. In the town of al-Shahel near Deir ez-Zor, four ISIS jihadists were arrested on Sunday along with their weapons. This was followed by an operation in Til Hemis near Qamishlo on Monday. There, one person was arrested who was active as an escape facilitator for ISIS members from the Hol Camp. Explosives were also seized in the operation, according to the SDF. The operations took place with the support of the international anti-ISIS coalition.

On Saturday, the assassination of the co-chair of the Til Sheir Municipality Civil Council, Sada al-Harmoush, and her deputy, Hind al-Khedr, had caused great consternation and anger. ISIS had claimed responsibility for the crime on Monday. There has been a significant increase in ISIS attacks in Syria, Rojava and Iraq in recent weeks.
