11 political parties in the canton of Raqqa issued a joint statement on the political and military developments in Syria and expressed their support for the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria. The press statement was read by Ayşe El Casim, the provincial chairperson of the Democratic Green Party.
Referring to the appointment of Abu Mohammad al-Jolani, the leader of Hayat Tahrir al-Sham (HTS), as the head of the interim administration of Syria, the statement said, “This process will determine the future and fate of all citizens on Syrian soil. As the political parties in the city of Raqqa, we, like other Syrians, will participate in the process of building a new Syria based on democracy and equal citizenship so that the Syrian people can live in freedom, security and dignity.”
Pointing to the unstable situation in the country and the increasing violations against tribes and ethnic groups, the statement called for an immediate end to the violations of human rights laws and international standards. The parties stressed that the crimes committed by extremist groups spread fear among the Syrian people and created a sense of unrest against the current administration.
The parties called for a ceasefire and respect for Syria's territorial integrity, demanding the banning of Turkish aircraft from Syrian airspace.
The parties highlighted the importance of internal dialogues away from external actors and proposed that women should take a leading role in building the future of Syria.
“We affirm that the Autonomous Administration of North and East Syria is our representative,” said the political parties in Raqqa, saluting the resistance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF).
