Kurds in Cologne send letter to the UN demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan

The worldwide campaign to demand freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan continues especially in Europe. Kurds in Cologne sent a letter to the UN Secretary General.

Members of the Cologne Kurdish Democratic Society Center and the Viyan Women's Council sent a letter to the United Nations calling on Secretary General Antonio Guterres to act to ensure the end of isolation and freedom for Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan.

The letters sent to UN Secretary General underlined that Abdullah Öcalan is the leader of the oppressed people of Kurdistan and has been kept in isolation in the prison for 22 years.

The letters also reminded that the Kurdish people are waging a struggle against ISIS to protect themselves and the entire humanity. “The intellectual leader of this struggle is Abdullah Öcalan. The fact that he is in prison means that the Kurdish people are also in the prison,” said the letter.

Letters from Kurds living in the city of Cologne were sent collectively by a group of 10 people from the post office in Wiener Platz.

Kurdish people embraced the "Freedom for Abdullah Öcalan" campaign first launched by the South African Kurdish Action Group (KHRAG) and the Confederation of Trade Unions (COSATU).
