The occupation of the CHP Mersin building by dismissed workers ended with the police intervention 19 hours later. Police detained 57 workers.
57 workers from Akdeniz Wire Nail Factory were dismissed for wanting to join the union and occupied CHP Mersin provincial building yesterday. The invasion act, which started at 08.30 yesterday morning, continued when the conversations held gave no result. CHP Provincial Head Yýlmaz Þanlý came to the building to meet the dismissed workers, who continued their act for 19 hours, for the last time. When the conversations gave no result, police made a move and warned workers with megaphone to end their act in 5 minutes. Workers remarked that they won’t end up their act.
Workers were interfered by police at around 3 in the morning when they continued their act despite the warning. After the police broke the door and went in, 57 workers were made to get on police buses bare-knuckled and taken to Mersin Police Station to give their statements. Workers said; “We want work and bread, that’s why we are detained” while getting on the buses. 57 detained workers gave statements at Mersin Security Directorate and were released at 08.30 in the morning.
