Women activists visit Şenyaşar family on Justice Vigil in Urfa

For 43 days now, Emine Şenyaşar has been sitting in front of the courthouse in Urfa demanding justice for her family members murdered by relatives and bodyguards of AKP deputy Halil Yıldız.

Emine Şenyaşar continues her sit-in action outside the courthouse in Urfa city from dawn to dusk every day. For 43 days now, the 70-year-old woman's vigil has continued with a placard reading "Justice".

Emine Şenyaşar’s family members were killed in June 2018 by bodyguards and relatives of AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız: her husband Hacı Esvet and her two sons Celal and Adil Şenyaşar. A third son, Fadıl Şenyaşar, who defended himself and his family, was sentenced to 37 years in prison on flimsy murder charges.

Members of the Mardin Şahmaran Women's Platform visited the Şenyaşar family on Tuesday.

Mother Emine Şenyaşar informed the women about the "Justice" vigil that has been going on for 43 days. "They call thieves deputies, but could a thief ever become a deputy?" she asked.

Ferit Şenyaşar spoke about the lawsuit process, saying, “They did not treat us as human beings. They did not punish these people. The ambulances that were carrying us were attacked, and they damaged public property. At least they could be punished for doing this.”

Gülizar İpek from the Mardin Şahmaran Women's Platform said, “We, as non-governmental organizations and women's platforms, will follow your case until justice is served. We are ready to do whatever we can. Mother Emine's outcry for justice has shattered hearts."
