DIHA news agency is reporting the story of Muhabbet Kurt who was arrested when she was 20 year-old in Istanbul. According to the accusation she was one of the demonstrators who forcibly occupied a radio channel building to produce propaganda in 1998. She made a denunciation during the trial against police officers for rape and torture as well. She was her who denounced the use of rape by police and soldier as a way to intimidate especially left people.

When eventually the law was changed she was released in the very first hours of yesterday after 13 years imprisonment. She wrote a book about what she went through because of rape and tortures.

Despite all the proves against them, the officers from Istanbul Police Department TIM-4 who raped the young woman walked free without any trouble.

”Bittersweet happiness is the best way to explain my feelings since many leftist people are still in the prison without a fair trial. We are going to make the state to pay, sooner rather than later” said Kurt, when she stepped out from prison.

She was welcomed with flowers and cheers of her relatives and friends.
