Welsh revolutionaries support Kurdish hunger striker Sis

Welsh revolutionaries and democrats held a 1-day hunger strike to show solidarity with Imam Sis.

Solidarity continues to grow with the hunger strike Imam Sis has been on for 72 days in Newport, Wales protesting the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan.

Welsh revolutionaries and democrats have held a 1-day hunger strike as part of solidarity actions in various centers. The 1-day hunger strike was called by the Cardiff Anarchist Network and the Collective Cardiff, and 40 people from Wales and elsewhere participated in the hunger strike.

The hunger strikers posted on social media under hashtags #Fast4Apo and #YmprydApo and put on t-shirts that said, “Break the isolation, break the fascism” in English and Welsh.

FROM WALES TO ROJAVA

Welsh singer Efa Supertramp and Welsh feminist poet Menna Elfyn were among the hunger strikers, as well as 8 people from the International Commune in Rojava. The 8 people in the International Commune supporting the hunger strike issued a video and said they support the Welsh revolutionaries’ call and that they are in solidarity with Imam Sis and all hunger strikers. The activists said defending Ocalan means defending the Rojava Revolution.

“OCALAN’S FREEDOM IS VITALLY IMPORTANT”

Colin Noshworty, participant to the solidarity action in the Kurdish Society Center where Imam Sis continues his hunger strike, said Ocalan’s freedom is vitally important.

Activist Catherine Lambert said she is protesting Turkey’s silence in the face of even such a humane demand, and added that a meaningful peace cannot come unless Ocalan is freed.

TO INTERNATIONAL INSTITUTIONS: FULFILL YOUR RESPONSIBILITIES

Organizers Collective Cardiff issued a written statement and said the isolation imposed upon Ocalan by the Turkish state violates all international human rights treaties, and stressing that the hunger strikers’ health is at a critical stage, called on international institutions like the CPT to fulfill their responsibilities.

“THE RESISTANCE FRONT GROWS”

In a statement, the Wales Kurdish Popular Assembly co-chairs said, “The meaningful and strong show of solidarity from Welsh friends has given us morale,” and added that the new resistance front opened by the hunger strikers grows every day.
