We eat dry bread at 'sahur'

20-year-old Dahibe Geçik slammed successive price hikes during Ramadan saying “we only eat dry bread at sahur [the dawn meal during Ramadan].”

Price hikes by the government continue to hit citizens. Together with ballooning utility bills, massive price hikes are aggravating the economic woes of ordinary citizens.

“We only eat dry bread at sahur”, Dahibe Geçik told ANF. She has two little children and calls for help.

'I CANNOT BUY DIAPERS AND MILK FOR MY CHILDREN'

The 20-year-old woman who lives in the neighbourhood of Petrolkent in Batman city said that her husband has epilepsy and that they face economic hardships with their two little children.

She cannot take care of her children. One of her children is 3 years old and the other 6 months old. “We get up for sahur, eat a piece of dry bread during the Ramadan,” she said.

'MY HUSBAND CANNOT WORK BECAUSE OF EPILECTIC SEIZURES'

The young woman said: “My husband's illness is getting worse because of financial problems. He was working as a construction worker, but he was getting weaker and weaker. The wages were low and we couldn't make a living anyway. Now he cannot work due to epileptic seizures. We can't go to the hospital because we don't have money. We are in a really difficult situation.”

CALL FOR HELP

The family paid 2 thousand 750 TL electricity bill last month. They paid for it by borrowing money.

Geçik said that they had to pay 500 TL rent this month. However, they could not pay for it because they did not even have money to buy food. The young woman asked for help.

“We are in a very difficult situation. I can't even ask my family and relatives for money, because their situation is the same. I wouldn't want to be in such a situation either.”
