Van Metropolitan Municipality is a 'money maker' for the AKP
In the local elections held on 31 March 2019, the HDP won Van Metropolitan Municipality with a high share of the votes.
After the HDP won the Van Metropolitan Municipality on 31 March 2019, it served the public implementing large projects throughout the city. Immediately after the elections, the elected HDP representatives turned Van Metropolitan Municipality into the home of the people.
HDP Metropolitan Municipality also opened separate service units for women, youth and children and spread the services to all sections of the society.
It was an exemplary municipality in the region. And it was seized by the AKP on 19 August 2019, after 4 months of government. With the appointment of a trustee, hundreds of municipal employees were laid off. Services to the public were stopped, and the municipality was turned into a building cordoned off by police, indeed it was turned into a police station. Even today, the people cannot enter Van Metropolitan municipality. And to make this clear, there is a high wall with police check-points all around it.
With the appointment of a trustee to the Van Metropolitan Municipality, the municipal service building was given almost in total to the police and AKP members. Approximately 350 workers who were dismissed by the trustee were not reinstated although they were entitled to return to their work by three (not one, three) rulings by the appropriate court.
The trustee replaced the 350 legitimate workers with AKP members. In one year, hundreds of AKP members were irregularly recruited. Most of these new workers are relatives of AKP administrators and deputies.
Van Metropolitan Municipality, where unlawfulness and injustice have reached the highest level, has turned into an income garden by the AKP.
In addition, recruitment and dismissals are carried out following orders of the AKP Van Provincial Organization. It has emerged that, in fact, Van Metropolitan Municipality is actually ruled by Emre Güray, AKP Van Provincial Vice President. It is stated that every decision made by the municipality is actually an order given by Güray. Hundreds of workers waiting to return to their work were prevented from doing so by Güray.
