"Unknown language" protest in Sirnak and Kars

Hundreds of Kurds took to the streets on Sunday in Sirnak and Kars to protest a Turkish court's definition of Kurdish language as "unknown language".

Deputy mayor Zeynep Inan, Uludere mayor Sukran Sincar and head of the local branch of BDP Abit Ike led the protestors carrying "Our language is our honor".

The crowd gathered in front of the BDP local branch office in Sirnak city center. A press statement was read here that says the people of Sirnak will not accept assimilation efforts by the Turkish state on Kurdish people.

The statement also involved solidarity message for the Kurdish politicians who stands trial in Diyarbakýr saying that Kurdish people supports them for their stand on Kurdish language.

Head of the local branch of BDP Abit Ike made a short speech saying that a nation can only survive if its language survives and called all Kurds to join the protests.

A similar protest was held in Kars city center where about 200 BDP supporters protested refusal of the right of defense in Kurdish in Turkish courts.
