Dozens of women gathered in Serdem Camp in Ehdas district, in the northern Syrian canton of Shehba to protest the war crimes and crimes against humanity committed by the Turkish state in the region.
Banners that read "No to demographic change in Afrin", "Women are life, do not kill life" and "Erdogan is a murderer of humanity" were displayed.
A press release was read out by Kongreya Star members Arîn Eli and Emine Mihemed, which said the following:
“The invading Turkish state has committed crimes against the people of the region and against nature in Afrin. It has committed various crimes such as murder, kidnapping, sexual abuse, plundering olive trees and historical monuments. Beheadings, non-human and immoral practices against children, women and the elderly by the Turkish state have proved that it adopts the same mentality with ISIS. Their aim is ethnic genocide. The invading Turkish state, which persists in Ottoman policies, aims to change the demographic structure by Turkifying the region. In particular, it imposes Turkish currency and language on the Yazidi people. It opens cultural centres which promote Turkish culture.”
“The Turkish state builds colonial houses in Afrin, from Jarablus to Idlib, through some European states and organizations in the Arab and Gulf countries, which reveals the dirty policies of the Turkish state. The Kongreya Star condemns the crimes against women and the people in Afrin and the occupied areas. We urge human rights organizations to stop these crimes,” it concluded.
