Turkish police arrests co-chairs of BDP in Urfa

Turkish police detained 32 members of the pro-Kurdish Peace and Democracy Party (BDP) including co-chairs of Urfa Bureau of BDP Adile Fidan and Ýbrahim Ayhan.

It is reported that only a few hours after the Kurdistan Democratic Confederation (KCK) extended its unilateral ceasefire for another month Turkish police raided houses in Urfa city centre and the districts Viransehir and Suruc as a result of which 32 Kurdish political activists have been detained with in the scope of the case against KCK.

In addition to the houses of co-chairs police also raided the house of the Mayor of Suruc Ethem Þahin who is already in custody.  The Urfa bureau of Kurdish daily Azadiya Welat and Harran University Democratic Students’ Union offices were also raided by the police.
