Turkish jurist proposed radical amendments on Turkish Constitution

A prominent Turkish jurist said some amendments can be implemented on the first three articles of Turkey's constitution which defines the form of the state, characteristics of the republic.

The president of the Constitutional Court of Turkey, Hasim Kilic said the government can make positive amendments to the first three articles of the Turkey's constitution.

The first three articles define the form of the state, characteristics of the republic, integrity of the state, official language, flag, national anthem, and capital.

The fourth article of the Turkish constitution says bans any amendments or amendment proposals to the first three articles.

Kilic said that "to freeze" the first three articles is does not comply with the international law.

Kurdish side demands amendments to the first three articles of the Turkish constitution which says Turkey's official language is Turkish.

The first three articles are:

I. Form of the State

ARTICLE 1. The Turkish state is a Republic.

II. Characteristics of the Republic

ARTICLE 2 . The Republic of Turkey is a democratic, secular and social state governed by the rule of law; bearing in mind the concepts of public peace, national solidarity and justice; respecting human rights; loyal to the nationalism of Atatürk, and based on the fundamental tenets set forth in the Preamble.

III. Integrity of the State, Official Language, Flag, National Anthem, and Capital

ARTICLE 3. The Turkish state, with its territory and nation, is an indivisible entity. Its language is Turkish.
