Iraqi President Celal Talabani met DTK Co-chairman Ahmet Türk when he came to Ýstanbul to join the Organization for Economic Cooperation Summit. Concerning the meeting, Türk said; “Talabani stated that he will give effort as much as he can to contribute to peace”. Aysel Tuðluk added that Talabani sent his greetings to Öcalan.
Democratic Society Congress (DTK) Co-Chairs Ahmet Türk and Aysel Tuðluk with BDP Muþ MP Sýrrý Sakýk met up Iraqi President Celal Talabani at lunch in Çýraðan Hotel. Ahmet Türk and Aysel Tuðluk made statements to the press following the meeting which lasted for about 1-5 hours. Ahmet Türk mentioned that Celal Talabani, whom he calls “Dear friend of us, Mam Celal”, has an important mission and role in ensuring peace in Turkey, adding that they saw him in an important effort in the solution of Kurdish question with peaceful means. Türk said; “We think the movements to be done today for the development of a peaceful process will provide important contributions to Turkey's peace”.
TALABANI: I WILL MAKE EVERY EFFORT
Türk recorded that they came together to see what they can do on peace subject, and continued as follows; “During the meeting today, we put forward our thoughts about how we can inch the door of peace, what we must do for the development of a democratic process and which steps must be taken for the brotherhood of people. Dear Talabani stated that he will give effort as much as he can to contribute to peace”.
Ahmet Türk marked that they believe they can now solve the problems in Turkey through dialogue and reconciliation and mentioned the “Democratic Autonomy” discussion as; “And apart from that, the democratic autonomy workshop of DTK has been on Turkey’s agenda for many days and discussed. Today, we want to mark at the first hand that DTK workshop was completely an exchange of views. What do we understand from democratic autonomy? What can we do for that? How should it be? It was this kind of workshop. However, some people tried to reflect as if decisions were made there. However, a number of intellectuals, academicians, politicians and scientists were also there, which means to discuss about the examples in the world and what we can do on a subject we want to discuss and take opinions”.
Pointing out that discussions can’t be tolerated in a process when weapons keep silent, Türk spoke as follows; “Those suggesting discussing when weapons keep silent are now showing a different approach. We, however, consider our democratic autonomy works as the fair right of us, Kurdish people. And again, we consider it as a project to make people speak with love, not as a separation policy. See, we know about democratic autonomy governments in many countries. If peaceful democratic processes like Catalan and Bask in Spain and in England, Scotland, Ireland and Gall Countries had not been started, Spain today would perhaps not exist in this process that much”.
“OUR PROJECT IS FOR A CONTEMPORARY TURKEY”
“In our democratic, contemporary world today, 20 million people in Turkey today will not accept a life without the language and a life they don’t participate in. This must be known very well. They are now in quest of a process where they will participate in the governance in their region, where they themselves can determine their needs, where he they can have a voice and right. We have to open the doors of a new era. Today we want a contemporary Turkey where people can embrace one another. This is a project of Turkey where Kurdish people, various shapes and beliefs can freely express themselves”.
Responding to the questions of journalists thereafter, Türk answered the question “Did Talabani affirm give concrete support concerning solution?” as follows; “It would be wrong to say what he will do but Talabani gave his support to this subject for years. By all means, he has a perspective to give effort for his fellows in Turkey and people to be at the same level”.
Türk answered another question "Would you meet with others also?" as follows; “We expressed that we want to share the subject with everyone. Meeting does not mean to compromise, but to defend our opinion correctly and we pay attention to reality and social processes. We will not succeed if we don’t develop empathy. The important point here is that we will of course be uncompromising about legitimate demands but we can do that possible by defending equality between peoples if this problem will be solved”.
Türk answered the question “How do you consider the initiation of investigation about DTK?” as follows; “It is under the control of Prosecution Office, we will watch the developments together”. Aysel Tuðluk, lawyering PKK Leader Abdullah Öcalan as well, answered the question “You visited Ýmralý and held conversations there. You met up Talabani as well. Did he make any statement about Öcalan or did he send Öcalan his greetings?” as follows; “Yes, sent his greetings”.
