Swedish Left Party's question on RojTv remains unanswered

Swedish Left Party Deputy Jacob Jonsson's parliamentary question concerning the closure case against Roj TV was answered by Foreign Minister Carl Bildt. The Minister said that he will not make comment on the case in Denmark.

In his answer to the parliamentary question, Bildt said: “with regard to the question Jacob Jonsson directed to me in November 2010, he asked me what kind of steps I would take against Turkey’s efforts to close Roj TV and to restrict the freedom of press and thought”.

Stating that Roj TV was sued with regard to Article 114 of the Danish Penal Code for ties with 'promoting terrorism' and PKK (Kurdistan Workers’ Party), Bildt said; “The case was opened in August 2010 by Denmark's chief prosecutor and will be launched seriously in 2011. I don’t have the aim of making any comments on this ongoing case in Denmark”.

Swedish Left Party Deputy Jacob Jansson pointed out that an agreement was arranged with Turkey during the election of former Danish Prime Minister Anders Fogh Rasmussen to General Secretary of NATO, asking Foreign Minister Carl Bildt which kind of steps he would take to defend Roj TV.
