Strasbourg hunger strike reached day 60

The indefinite hunger strike launched in Strasbourg demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has reached day 60.

Actions in support of the hunger strikes are being held in different countries of Europe while visitors continue to go to Strasbourg to show solidarity with the 14 hunger strikers there.

Hunger strikers have received visits from Paris and Brussels as well as different German cities like Dortmund and Giessen. The group Koma Le Lo also came to Strasbourg from Switzerland.

International community needs to take action

Hunger striker Mehmet Nimet Sevim pointed out the importance of public support for the hunger strike action to succeed. “Things will be more difficult if the international community remains silent.”

Call to Kurdish people

Sevim said he was sure that the hunger strike will succeed but added: “We have to be united to achieve victory.”

Sevim emphasized that the most active and widespread support for hunger strikes has been developed in European countries and pointed out that the people of Kurdistan should join all actions.

The Turkish state, said Sevim, wants to create a new status quo and in order to achieve its interests the AKP is ready to hit out at Kurds.

Hunger striker Sevim said that the AKP fascist government wants to deepen isolation.
