Solidarity with Saturday Mothers in Stuttgart, Basel, Vienna

Solidarity actions for the Saturday Mothers have taken place in Stuttgart, Basel and Vienna. The mothers are demanding information about their missing relatives for the 800th week today and have again been attacked by the Turkish police.

In Stuttgart, Basel and Vienna rallies have been held for the Saturday Mothers. Founded in 1995 by mothers of "disappeared" in Istanbul, the initiative has today made its 800th public appearance to denounce the practice of "disappearances" in state custody. It demands the complete clarification of the cases and the punishment of the perpetrators and those responsible. Today's action at Galatasaray Square in Istanbul was attacked by the police and several arrests were made.

The Stuttgart alliance "Solidarity with the Saturday Mothers" held a rally on Marstallstraße. Photos of disappeared people were presented and candles were lit. The rally began with a minute's silence, followed by speeches about the struggle of the Saturday Mothers and called for solidarity.

A rally at Claraplatz Square in Basel was organised by the Swiss representation of the human rights association IHD and the ICAD committee, which is internationally active against the practice of disappearances.

The Women’s Platform of Vienna Democratic Forces Union organised a demonstration in the Austrian capital and called on the government and civil society organizations in the country to take action to shed light on the fate of those who were disappeared after detention by Turkish state forces and to ensure that the perpetrators are brought to justice.
