SDF liberates another village and encircles the Azadî Dam

SDF fighters liberated the al-Hamam village 20 km east of Tabqa and encircled the Azadî Dam.

YPG-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) are making further advances east of Tabqa town in their ongoing Operation Wrath of Euphrates to clear the Raqqa territory of ISIS gangs.

After clearing the Abu Qibab village of the gangs, SDF fighters moved on and entered the al-Hamam village 500 m away from the Azadî Dam Wednesday morning.

Following fierce clashes, SDF forces cleared the al-Hamam village of ISIS gangs at 17:20 local time Wednesday afternoon. Several ISIS members were killed during clashes in the village but no details are available yet regarding the exact number of casualties inflicted on ISIS. SDF fighters also seized several arms and large quantities of ammunition belonging to the gangs.

With the liberation of the last village on the way to the Azadî Dam, SDF forces have encircled the dam now.

SDF commanders stated that the dam is under their control and that the roads linking Raqqa to other Syrian cities have been cut.

SDF fighters have not entered the dam yet due to the presence of landmines and explosives planted by the gangs.
