Police raided several houses in Istanbul in the morning hours. Lawyer Deniz Demirdöğen announced on his social media account that he was being detained.
In Adana, the police attacked a group protesting the arrest of Istanbul Metropolitan Mayor Ekrem İmamoğlu with water cannons, rubber bullets and gas bombs. Many people were beaten and detained.
In İzmir, Social Freedom Party (TÖP) MYK member Didar Gül, Praksis music group member Soner Küçükergüler, former SGDF (Socialist Youth Associations Federation) Chair Şükran Yaren Tuncer, Gökhan Erdem, Sema Nur Demirtaş, Berk Çukurcam, Mehmet Duman and Gülşen Sude Avcı were taken into custody.
Among those detained is lawyer Göksel Akbaba, who was attacked by the police at the provincial police headquarters yesterday when he went to meet with his clients. Former Izmir Bar Association President Özkan Yücel was also detained.
The detainees are accused of “violating the Law on Meetings and Demonstrations”.
