Provocation in front of DEM Party headquarters in Ankara

A nationalist group staged provocation with Turkish flags in front of the DEM party headquarters in Ankara.

A group of people carrying Turkish flags gathered in front of the DEM Party (Peoples’ Equality and Democracy Party) headquarters in Ankara on Wednesday morning. The people described themselves as members of a foundation of relatives of war veterans and fallen soldiers in Turkey and chanted racist and insulting slogans. The police cordoned off the group and did not intervene. The gathering dispersed by itself after a while, before a yellow body bag was thrown in front of the party building.

The group apparently blamed the DEM Party for the war in Kurdistan. At the end of last week, the PKK guerrillas carried out several large-scale operations against the Turkish occupying forces in southern Kurdistan (northern Iraq) and 87 soldiers were killed according to the HPG (People’s Defense Forces). In recent years, provocations directed by the Turkish state have repeatedly taken place in front of the headquarters of the DEM and its predecessor party, the HDP, and various armed attacks have taken place.
