Protest in Denmark for RojTV

Staging an act in front of Denmark Embassy Building to demand the suspension of the case against Roj Tv and to protest the pressures on the channel, BDP (Peace and Democracy Party) members met with Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen. It was reported that Mikkelsen said “Kurdish people are also our friends, like all other people, stating that the case against Roj Tv will ground on universal law principles.

A group of BDP, SDP, EHP Ankara provincial organizations, Social Freedom Platform (TÖB), Socialist Future Party Initiative, Ankara 78s’ Initiative and Emekli-Sen Ankara representatives came together to protest the pressures and the case against Roj Tv and opened a black banner written “Roj Tv Dengê Kurda ye, Hûn Nikarin Bigirin!”.

During the act, Denmark Ambassador Ole Egberg Mikkelsen invited BDP Provincial Co-chairs to his residence. Following the half-hour talk, BDP Co-chairs Mehmet Hanifi Þelem and Þengül Çelik made the following statement; “Dear Ambassador stated that they have been viewing the warnings and complaints about Roj Tv for the last 5 years but they couldn’t take any judicial attempts so far due to lack of concrete evidence and that this case was opened on intensive complaints. He remarked that courts are independent from governments in Denmark,saying us that the courts will also try the suit in universal law.”

Concerning the talk, Provincial Co-chair Þengül Çelik said the followings; “Dear Ambassador said us that they have the same relation and distance with all people in the country. He expressed that the pressure on Roj Tv is not bound up with the Denmark government. He expressed their awareness of the sensibility that Denmark has a population of 20 millions and Kurdish people have 20 million populations. Explaining that his assistant and consultant are also following the case in Diyarbakýr, Dear Ambassador said that they are friends with Kurdish people, like all others. He also added that they will follow our act and convey it to related seats in their country.

Following the statements concerning the talk, BDP Provincial Co-chair Hanifi Þelem made a press statement. Pointing out that the government again has destruction, assimilation and discharge plans in an after-selection process, Þelem spoke as follows;

“As BDP, we condemn the starters of these attempts against Roj Tv and demand the stop of the closure case. The government should clear the way for the broadcast of Roj Tv, the indefeasible value of Kurdish people. If a channel should necessarily be closed, that must be TRT 6.

The protest, against which action forces took intense security measures, ended with the protest of the group.
