Protest against criminalization of Kurds in Marseille

Numerous people protested in Marseille against the criminalization of Kurdish activists in France.

A protest rally against the criminalization of Kurdish activists took place in Marseille. On Tuesday, twelve people were arrested during simultaneous searches of the Kurdish Community Center in Marseille and various apartments in the southern French city as well as in Paris and Draguignan. Today, four people received a police summons.

The rally on the Canebière began with further attempts at criminalization. The police carried out checks on people but withdrew after protests from those present. The participants shouted, "The terrorist is Erdogan" and "We are all PKK". At the same time, they held signs pointing to Turkey's support for the ISIS and the French government's inconsistent stance. One banner read "Humanity owes a lot to the Kurds," while another accused French President Macron of betraying the Kurds.

A speech by the Kurdish Community Center described the repression of the Kurdish movement in France as a gesture to Erdogan and announced a continuation of the protests. A large demonstration is to take place in Marseille on Saturday.
