The Kurdistan Women's Freedom Party (PAJK) Coordination issued a written statement about 4 April, the 76th birthday of Abdullah Öcalan.
The PAJK wrote: "We celebrate the 76th birthday of Leader Apo [Abdullah Öcalan], who, with his birth, became a message of hope for women and peoples. We salute everyone who support him, especially women. More specifically, we celebrate 4 April as a special day for children—who represent the joy and purity of life, who spread love with their laughter and pure hearts. The events marking 4 April, such as the children's festival and tree-planting initiatives, symbolize our commitment to them. It is our promise to protect their lives, hold accountable those who have harmed them, and build a free and beautiful future with a green and flourishing nature."
The statement also paid tribute to those who lost their lives in 2009 when AKP forces attacked 4 April celebrations, particularly Mahsum Karaoğlan and Mustafa Dağ, honoring them as martyrs of democracy.
The statement added: "4 April marks a milestone for women, peoples, and all of humanity. Leader Apo shaped his socialist identity and struggle through the lens of women's liberation. By calling the Women's Revolution his 'most important work,' he positioned women as the leading force and central figures in societal struggles. His focus on women's freedom became a historic breakthrough. Through the Women's Liberation Ideology, the slogan 'Jin, Jiyan, Azadî' [Woman, Life, Freedom], and the development of Jineoloji, he challenged patriarchal oppression and paved the way for the advancement of women's freedom movements. He developed the paradigm that would overturn 5,000 years of male-dominated civilization with the Women's Revolution, heralding the awakening of the era of women. In this sense, the birth of Leader Apo is also the birth of women's freedom."
The statement highlighted that from an early age, Öcalan recognized the contradictions and injustices within the society he was born into. Listening to the pure and just emotions of childhood, he became the unwavering voice of conscience. He rejected the imposed norms and defended social morality based on democracy, freedom, and equality. By founding the PKK—at a time when the Kurdish identity was denied, and even the Kurdish language was banned—he sparked the Kurdish people’s struggle for freedom. This marked the second birth of the Kurdish people. "In this sense, 4 April is the rebirth of the Kurdish people," the statement said.
PAJK also underlined Öcalan’s dedication to “anti-capitalist, democratic socialism, which envisions a world free from exploitation. His ideas have inspired democratic modernity forces worldwide who believe another world is possible. By advocating a democratic, ecological, and women's liberationist paradigm, he led the way for the birth of a new societal structure. His struggle against oppressive powers and patriarchal dominance has led to his imprisonment on Imrali, a captivity that symbolizes the continued subjugation of all oppressed people. His physical freedom means freedom for all."
