NAV-YEK takes over Freedom for Ocalan Vigil

The vigil held in front of the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg for Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan’s freedom is to be continued by members of the Yazidi Associations Union Headquarters (NAV-YEK) on week 355.

The Freedom for Ocalan Vigil held in front of the Council of Europe (CoE) in Strasbourg is to be continued by a group from the NAV-YEK this week.

The Freedom Vigil has continued for over 7 years, and is the longest-running Kurdish protest in Europe. Each week a new group takes over and demands freedom for Ocalan between 07:30 and 16:30 every day.

The protest grounds has a board with Ocalan’s portraits that says the group is holding a vigil for Ocalan’s freedom, and the activists inform the public on the matter.

“THE LEADER’S FREEDOM IS THE KURDISH PEOPLE’S FREEDOM”

Yazidi Council peshimam Hizni spoke in the name of the group and said the Kurdish people are going through a critical process, stressing the hunger strikes launched by Leyla Guven that spread to various cities throughout the world, including Strasbourg.

Hizni said they salute Guven, prison hunger strikes and hunger strikes in Europe: “The Yazidi community and the Kurdish people in general need to mobilize and support the process. We consider the freedom of the Kurdish People’s Leader to be the freedom of the Kurdish people.”

Peshimam Hizni also spoke about the sacrifice actions in prisons demanding an end to the isolation imposed upon Ocalan and said the Kurdish people should be protesting constantly so no other deaths occur.

Peshimam Hizni called on the CoE and the Committee for the Prevention of Torture (CPT) to urgently respond to the demands to end the isolation imposed upon Ocalan.
