The İmralı Delegation of the Peoples' Equality and Democracy Party (DEM Party) continues its talks with political party leaders after their meeting with Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan in İmralı.The delegation consists of MPs Pervin Buldan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder and Mardin Metropolitan Municipality Co-Mayor Ahmet Türk, who was deposed and replaced by a government-appointed trustee.
The delegation met with Ali Babacan, Chairman of DEVA Party, on Tuesday. DEVA Party Deputy Chairman İbrahim Çanakçı, Vice Chairman Mehmet Emin Ekmen and Sadullah Ergin also attended the meeting with the İmralı Delegation.
After the meeting, Ali Babacan and Sırrı Süreyya Önder made a short statement. Babacan said, “There has been a new climate since 1 October. We say that efforts for a solution are important in this process. As the DEVA Party, we stand by and behind every sincere step to be taken. Intention and goal are important.”
Babacan pointed out that: “Another important issue in this process is sincerity. We attach importance to the sincerity of the government officials. We have not seen clearly where Mr Erdoğan stands as President. Parliament is a very important address. However, considering the current system of governance, Mr Erdoğan needs to clarify his position.”
Önder stated that they discussed very important issues during the meeting and that they received various warnings and suggestions: “We conveyed what has happened so far. Each suggestion and comment are very precious and only by taking them into consideration can we create a ground for reconciliation. This is one of the things we have learned from past lessons. We will make a very comprehensive statement later. We are in the same place today as we said yesterday with regard to conducting the process transparently.”
Answering the questions of journalists, Sırrı Süreyya Önder stated that the time of a new meeting with İmralı has not been finalised yet.
Önder noted that Ahmet Türk would also take part in a possible meeting, adding that the DEM Party İmralı Delegation would also meet with Kurdish parties.
The delegation then went to the Parliament to visit the Yeniden Refah Party.
