Lawyers leave hall of Kobanê Trial

In the first hearing of the Kobanê Trial, there was a dispute between the lawyers who reacted to the fact that not all lawyers were allowed into the hall and the court president. The lawyers left the courtroom.

Today the Kobanê Trial opened in Ankara. 108 people are being tried, 28 of them in prison. Among them are the former co-chairs of the Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Figen Yüksekdağ and Selahattin Demirtaş.

The first hearing of the case is being held at the Sincan Prison Campus.

Nearly 100 defense lawyers were not allowed into the hall on the grounds that there was no space left. Riot police were sent to the places reserved for lawyers.

Lawyers in the hall asked that all lawyers waiting outside be brought into the hall. However, the court president said that he would only allow a limited number of lawyers on the grounds of Covid-19 and would not make concessions on this issue.

Meanwhile, the names of captive politicians Bülent Parmaksiz, Alp Altınörs, Günay Kubilay, Nezir Çakan, Mesut Bağçık, Zeki Çelik, Ayşe Yağcı, Bircan Yorulmaz, Dilek Yağ, Emine Ayna, Emine Beyza Üstün, Pervin Woodcutter, Sibel Akdeniz, Ayla Akat Ata, were read among noise in the court. The imprisoned politicians who attended the hearing through SEGBİS did not respond to the court president. Captive politicians continued to protest with applause.
