In a written statement, the co-presidency council of the KCDK-E (European Kurdish Democratic Societies Congress) announced that it will organise events in Europe, Australia and Canada to protest the occupation of Afrin, the executions in Iran and the recent military assaults of the Turkish state in the Medya Defense Zones in South Kurdistan.

“The fascist Turkish state which targets common and democratic life has annexed Afrin as result of a genocide attack it launched in January 2018 together with allied mercenaries. The Turkish army killed and injured thousands of civilians and forced them to migrate, using all kinds of heavy weapons, tanks and fighter jets,” the statement said.

“Abducted women were raped and sold in slave markets. Hundreds of thousands of people were displaced from Afrin. Its democratic autonomous structure was abolished. Its beautiful nature and historical sites have been pillaged. An assimilation policy was carried out through bans on language and belief. This century's greatest crime against humanity has been committed. Russia, America, and international powers have been mere spectator to this genocide in silence. The history has written the occupation of Afrin as a shame for humanity.

Occupation of Afrin was the beginning of occupation and annexation of all Kurdistan

The fascist Turkish state and dictator Erdogan that are supposed to be tried in international courts continue to occupy and annex all of Kurdistan. All international institutions, especially the United Nations, maintain their silence towards crimes against humanity and genocide.

The latest military assault launched by the colonialist Turkish state over Medya Defense Zones on April 24 is a continuation of these annexation plans. The comprehensive military assault launched against Medya Defense Zones aims to purge the Kurdish freedom struggle. This genocidal attack against the existence of the Kurdish people aims to eliminate the Kurds as a nation. The Kurdish Freedom Movement is fighting to protect all Kurdistan and the Kurdish people.

This resistance that is currently going on in the Medya Defense Zones is a defence of four parts of Kurdistan and a struggle to confront the Kurdish genocide. The attack on the Medya Defense Zones is aimed at putting away the gains of all the people of Kurdistan and promoting a genocide in Kurdistan.

We urge all Kurdish people, Turkish intellectuals, revolutionaries, democrats and European friends to mobilize with a broad participation in the actions to be held on Saturday, May 8, in Europe, Australia and Canada to protest the occupation of Afrin, the recent military assaults of the Turkish state in South Kurdistan and executions in Iran,” the statement said.
