Kurdish writer Adil Başaran remanded in custody

Kurdish writer Adil Başaran, who was taken into custody during an operation against the DTK was remanded in custody.

HDP provincial administrator Ahmet Eken, Chamber of Survey Engineers Mardin Representative Abdulvahap Irmak, Kurdish writer Adil Başaran, Abdulvahap Sırdaş and Cihan Arslan, were taken into custody during an operation launched on the activities carried out by the Democratic Society Congress (DTK). While Cihan Arslan was released, the other 4 people were referred to Mardin Courthouse for prosecution inquiries. The four people were questioned over the activities of the Democratic Society Congress and the press statements they attended in 2015 and 2019, on the basis of "secret witness statements".

Following the prosecutor's interrogation, Kurdish writer Başaran was sent to prison accused of “being a member of an illegal organisation”, while the other 3 people were released on the condition of judicial control.
