Kurdish conference to be held at the European Parliament

The EU Turkey Civic Commission (EUTCC) will hold its 7th International Conference on the “EU, Turkey and the Kurds” at the EU Parliament in Brussels, Belgium 17-18 November 2010.

The purpose of the conference is to assess the current status of Turkey’s EU accession process in light of recent developments concerning the Kurdish situation in Turkey.

Prominent speakers from Turkey and several other involved states and groups will address to democratic solution to Kurdish problem,the impact of the present conflict on civil society and the future politics of solutions,conflict resolution: engaging in political dialogue and peace building.

The EUTCC hopes that this conference will help renew Turkey’s stalled EU accession process by suggesting positive ways for that state to help solve its continuing Kurdish problem in co-operation with the Kurdish legitimate partners.  

According to the sources, many intellectuals, writers, politicians and the representatives of many civil society organizations will participate the conference. The peace and the negotiations for a process will be discussed.

It is reported that, South African Nobel Peace Prize winner Desmond Tutu, Iranian Shirin Ebadi and former DEP MP Leyla Zana, Author Noam Chomsky, Yasar Kemal and Vedat Turkali will attend the conference.

BDP Co-Chair person Selahattin Demirtas and DTK Co-Chair person Ahmet Turk will also be there.
