KON-MED condemns attack on Long March, calls for participation

KON-MED (Confederation of Communities of Kurdistan in Germany) condemned the German police for attacking young people participating in the Long March demanding freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan from Hanover to Hamburg.

In a written statement, KON-MED co-chairs condemned the German police's attack on the march organized by Kurdish and internationalist youth and called on people to join the march today, on its last day.

KON-MED said: “German police has attacked the march organised by Kurdish and internationalist young people demanding freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan. The attack happened on the 6th day of the 7-day Long March. Police violently attack young people injuring two activists and detaining a number of others.”

The statement added: “KON-MED strongly condemn the attack of the German police which used disproportionate violence and violated the right of young people to democratic march, just like the Turkish police.

Despite the attempts of criminalising Kurdish activities in the past, Kurdish institutions are stronger than ever. We urge the German government to give up these wrong policies aimed at pleasing the Turkish government. We call on our people, DKTMs, our members and all our friends to be sensitive to these repression, and to join the last day of the march demanding the freedom of Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan."
