Hunger striker Koc: All should rush to Brussels

European Kurdish Democratic Society Congress (KCDK-E) Co-chair Yuksel Koc who has been on a hunger strike in Strasbourg, called for strong participation to the central march and rally to be held on February 27 in Brussels.

KCDK-E Co-chair Yuksel Koc, one of the 14 activists on a hunger strike in Strasbourg for 72 days protesting the isolation imposed upon Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Ocalan, appeared in front of cameras despite his worsening health and called for participation to demonstrations in Brussels and Cologne.

Koc said, “As an activist in the Strasbourg resistance, in the name of the KCDK-E, I am calling on all our people and allies in Europe to attend the central rally and march to be held in Brussels on February 27.”

Koc pointed out that it is a duty to make the voice of hunger strike activists heard in the Council of Europe and the European Parliament and added: “Attend these demonstrations with a spirit of urgency.”

Koc said the demonstration on February 27 is important in that it will be held in front of the European Parliament. “We are over the critical threshold,” said Koc and added that Leyla Guven has been on a hunger strike for 111 days, Nasir Yagiz for 98, prisoners for 73 and activists in Strasbourg and Newport for 73.

“We are over the critical threshold now,” repeated Koc and said: “If we don’t want negative developments, all must increase their struggle. A certain awareness has been created in the international arena, in Kurdistan and in various centers, but authorities are still silent.”

Koc said everybody should feel personally responsible and participate in the march on February 27, as well as bring others with them: “Those who don’t do something today when things can be done shouldn’t wail and cry tomorrow. There is no doubt that the Erdogan regime will be responsible for any martyrdoms, but those who fail their duty will also have some responsibility. To break the isolation and to tear down fascism, all who have a conscience and dignity should rush to Brussels and make the voice of the resistance heard everywhere.”

Koc said there will also be a march in Cologne, Germany on March 2 and added: “Our people in Germany should turn Cologne into an arena for resistance on that day to break the silence by the German state.”
