KCK: Yuksekova shooting is a planned act of Turkish government

Kurdish Communities Union (KCK) said the shooting of a Kurdish activist in Yuksekova, a district of Hakkari province, is deliberate and held Turkish government responsible.

A Kurdish youth activist Serhat Karadag was shot on the head by a Turkish soldier in a checkpoint outside Yuksekova on Friday. Hakkari governor said Karadag shot himself but Kurdish sources denied self-shooting claims.

Karadag is still in Van State Hospital. He is reported to be in a serious but stable condition.

He was the spokesperson of Revolutionary Patriotic Youth Organization’s Yuksekova branch.

KCK issued a statement today condemning the attack against Karadag and held Turkish government responsible for the shooting.

KCK statement said the shooting of Karadag shows the real face of Turkish government on its attitude against unilateral ceasefire declared by the Kurdish guerillas since 13 August. KCK harshly criticized Turkish government for its oppressive practices in Hakkari and Yuksekova and gave arrestment of Yuksekova mayor Ruken Yetiskin as an example.

The statement underlined that the attack against Karadag is an attack against Kurdish people as a whole and said the incident was a planned act of the Turkish government and ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP).

KCK called all Kurds to protest Turkish government, police and army.

KCK also said none of the conditions set by the Kurdish movement were met by the Turkish government since the declaration of unilateral ceasefire.

“On the contrary Turkish army bombarded Medya Defence Territories and two guerillas lost their lives in Batman in recent bombing. The ‘political genocide’ operations against Kurdish youth and politicians went on and hundreds were detained and sent to prison. Kurdish political prisoners right to defend themselves in their mother language was denied and Kurdish language was insulted by using the term ‘an unknown language’ in Turkish court’s records” the statement read.

KCK called the Turkish government to take concrete steps on peaceful solution of the Kurdish problem and criticized Turkish Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan for political distraction.

KCK also welcomed the I. Conference on Kurdish Culture – Art and Literature Conference in Diyarbakir saying that the conference is an important step for the defense of Kurdish culture against oppressive politics of the ruling states in the region.
