Iraqi MP: Turkish attacks constitute a threat, must stop

Musenna Emin urged the Iraqi government to take a stance against the Turkish attacks on Iraqi Kurdistan on the grounds that they constitute a threat.

Another reaction to the Turkish state's airstrikes on Makhmur and Shengal came from Musenna Emin, a member of the Iraqi Parliamentary and Iraqi Foreign Affairs Commission of the Islamic Yegurti Party.

Iraqi Foreign Ministry said in a statement after the attack that such actions “violated the sovereignty and security of Iraq”. Deputy Mussena Emin demanded the government put an end to these attacks.

Emin said: “These attacks carried out by Turkey have become a tradition, which violate Iraq's sovereignty. As a result of these attacks targeting our citizens in our lands, dozens of people are killed or wounded.”

Attacks, said Emin, “make the settlement difficult in border villages. There is a need to re-establish neighborly relations between Iraq and Turkey. Turkey is violating Iraq's sovereignty and security. These attacks are a serious threat to co-existence and security in the region.”

Iraq needs to take a strong stance with Turkey, said Emin, demanding an end to these attacks. “I think the time has come for Iraq to take a strong stance towards Turkey.”

Emin added: “We call on the Iraqi government to protect its borders by respecting good neighbouring relations and without making any party into a target. We demand an end to these attacks.”
