An investigation was launched against Egitim-Sen after the union spoke out against repression and unlawful practices.

An investigation was launched against Egitim-Sen. Reportedly, it was launched by the Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office.

In a statement released on Monday, 24 March, the Education and Science Workers' Union (Egitim-Sen) declared: "We stand with the students against long-standing anti-democratic practices, repression, and injustice!" The union also declared that it would suspend all work in higher education on 25 March as an act of protest.

The Istanbul Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office launched the investigation based on the union’s statement. In its official announcement, the Prosecutor’s Office said: "On 24 March 2025, our Office launched an ex officio investigation against members of Egitim-Sen and the users of the related social media accounts, on the grounds that the union’s official social media account made a call to provoke public unrest, without fulfilling the legal requirements for a strike. The investigation is being conducted on charges of openly inciting others to commit a crime."
