Internationalist action week for Öcalan’s freedom kicks off in Hanau

The alternative program to the internationalist long march for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan, which was cancelled due to pandemic, has begun in Hanau. On Saturday, a demonstration will take place in Frankfurt.

The internationalist action week for the freedom of Abdullah Öcalan started in Hanau on Friday. The action week is the alternative program for the annual "Long March" to Strasbourg in February, because the original planning with participants from different countries had to be changed due to pandemic.

The rally on the Hanau market square was opened with a minute of silence for the nine victims of the racist attack on February 19, 2020. Speeches were then given protesting against the isolation on the Turkish prison island Imrali and demanding freedom for Abdullah Öcalan and all political prisoners. A video projection was used to illustrate the isolation regime on Imrali and quotes from Öcalan were displayed on banners. Mostly young people from Kurdistan, Germany, Catalonia and Turkey took part in the action.

The further planning of the action week is as follows:

February 6: Demonstration in Frankfurt am Main, Günthersburgpark

February 7: Demonstration in Mainz, 2 p.m. Cathedral Square

February 8: Demonstration in Darmstadt, 2 p.m. central station

February 9: Mannheim

February 10: Esslingen

February 11: Bad Cannstatt / Stuttgart

February 12: Freiburg

February 13: Final rally in Strasbourg
