Hunger strikers in Stockholm: End the silence!

Activists on hunger strike in Stockholm protested the silence of media and European institutions.

Activists from Norway and Denmark who are on hunger strike in the Odenplan Square in the center of Stockholm, performed songs and slogans to draw attention to the hunger strike resistance demanding the end of isolation against Kurdish People’s Leader Abdullah Öcalan.

Norwegian activist Tord Viktor Joensen reminded that the hunger strike has been launched on 7 November 2018.

Joensen also reminded that hunger strikes are being carried out in many parts of the world, and that the common demand of the hunger strikers is the end of isolation against Öcalan.

“The Erdogan regime does all it can to prevent a peaceful solution to the Kurdish problem. - said the activist -Abdullah Öcalan's proposal for democratic autonomy and democratic republic is the guarantee of a peaceful solution. The isolation imposed on Öcalan should be removed and peace talks should began again.”

Joensen added that Öcalan played a key role in the peace process of 2013-2015. Reminding that thousands of people have lost their lives in the conflict after the end of the peace process, he urged the Council of Europe, the Swedish government and the CPT, to take action to end isolation.

Zeliha Titrek, spokesperson for the Danish Sêvê Women's Council, called on Kurds from Central Anatolia to act, reminding that the hunger strike launched by Leyla Güven to end isolation against Kurdish People's Leader Abdullah Öcalan has spread all over the world.
