Kurds launched hunger strike at the square in front of the parliament building in Stockholm in protest at the Turkish state and ISIS remnant gangs’ attacks on Afrin and in solidarity with the peoples of Afrin.

Banners condemning the Turkish state and images of slain civilians were hung around the tent where hunger strike was launched. Participants of the action are informing passers-by about the Turkish state’s savagery and crimes against humanity in Afrin.

Holding speeches and chanting slogans in front of the resistance in Afrin, activists are protesting and denouncing the silence of western countries on the Turkish state’s genocidal attacks against the canton.

Following a minute’s silence in memory of Afrin and revolution martyrs, Stockholm Democratic Kurdish Society Center co-chairs Girine Kasırga and Latif Cebe held speeches in Kurdish and Swedish telling about the purpose of their action.

Recalling that the Turkish state is bombing Afrin from the air and ground since January 20, Kasırga and Cebe pointed out that Al-Nusra, Al-Qaeda and ISIS remnant gangs are committing ethnic cleansing and massacre in Afrin together with the Turkish army.

Kasırga and Cebe remarked that the Turkish state has intensified its attacks despite the ceasefire resolution of the United Nations, saying; “However, Western governments have turned a blind eye to the Turkish state’s massacre in Afrin. For this reason, the European Union, US and Russia are accomplice in the massacres perpetrated by the Turkish state in Afrin.”

Participants of the hunger strike chant slogans supporting the Kurdish Freedom Movement and protesting the Turkish state’s genocidal attacks on Afrin, such as “Bloody hands off Afrin”, “Fascist Erdoğan, hypocrite European Union”, “Long Live YPG/YPJ”, “Martyrs are immortal”, “Long Live Leader Apo”.
