Historical lion sculptures found blown up by Daesh in Raqqa

Two lion sculptures, previously brought over from Kobane to Raqqa by the Baath Regime, have been found blown up by Daesh during their occupation of the city.

Two historic lion sculptures dating back to 700 B.C. had been discovered in the Sheran village of Kobane, and brought over to Raqqa by the Baath Regime long time ago. The sculptures were then erected at the Al-Rashid Park in Raqqa.

After Raqqa was liberated from the Daesh gangs, the sculptures were found in the Al-Rashid park, bombed and blown into pieces. It came out that the Daesh gangs had blown the two sculptures up, because they regarded the historic sculptures as idols.

Footage by Hawar News Agency (ANHA) shows the destroyed historical sculptures.
