Hewler: "We will comply with the decree to reject the referendum”

The Southern Kurdistan Regional Government has announced that they will comply with the Iraqi Federal Government’s decree to reject the September 25 independence referendum, officially cancelling it.

The Iraqi Federal Court issued a statement on November 6 and said, "No article of the Constitution allows for any constituent to secede," thus cancelling the referendum held in Southern Kurdistan on September 25.

Southern Kurdistan Regional Government had previously announced that they would not comply with the decree. In the latest statement, they have declared that they will. With this, the referendum held in Southern Kurdistan on September 25 has officially been cancelled.
