Hevrin Xelef's mother: Justice must be served

Sûad Xelef Mihemed, mother of Martyr Hevrîn Xelef, supports the Şenyaşar family's justice vigil. She urged the international community and human rights organizations to promote justice.

The bodyguards and relatives of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) MP İbrahim Halil Yıldız attacked the Şenyaşar family's shop and killed Hacı Esvet and his sons Celal and Adil Şenyaşar on 14 June 2018. The case has recently ended. The court sentenced Fadıl Şenyaşar, who was injured during the attack, to 37 years and 9 months in prison and a fine of 600 TL. The brother of the AKP MP, Enver Yıldız, the other defendant in the file, was sentenced to life imprisonment. However, the court reduced the sentence of Yıldız to 18 years in prison citing a "severe provocation". The public and Şenyaşar family reacted to the court decision.

Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar started a justice vigil in front of the Urfa Courthouse on 9 March to demand "Justice". Their vigil is continuing on its 32nd day.

Hevrîn Xelef's mother Sûad Mihemed called for support for the Şenyaşar family.

Hevrîn Xelef, Secretary General of the Syrian Future Party, was murdered by Turkish-backed gangs on the M4 highway on 12 October 2019.

Sûad Mihemed appealed to international courts for the murder of his daughter. However, she has not been able to get any results so far.

Both families expect the murderers of their children to be brought to justice.

'JUSTICE IS NOT DONE'

Sûad Mihemed said, “Hevrîn was doing democratic politics. She wanted to convey the demands of her people to the world. She was working for the brotherhood of the peoples. However, Turkish president Erdoğan and his gangs murdered her. Currently, Şenyaşar family and women are resisting Erdoğan's fascism."

Sûad Mihemed emphasized that the criminals who murdered Hevrin have not been brought to justice. "For us, justice has not been done."

"There is no justice. Authorities do not take responsibility. Justice must be served. Those responsible must be punished. But none of them are done," she added.

'TURKISH STATE IS COMMITTING A CRIME'

Sûad Mihemed continued, “We will continue our struggle by appealing to international courts. Erdoğan is fighting against the will of the peoples. He attacks civilians. He usurps people’s rights. We call upon the UN and human rights organizations. They should bring the Turkish state to account. They should not close their eyes to these crimes. They should avoid massacres of children.”

Sûad Mihemed added, “I will fight for my daughter to the end. Nobody has reacted to the Turkish state so far. Where are those people who promote peace and freedom?"
