HDP co-chairs Pervin Buldan and Mithat Sancar wished 2021 to be the "year of freedom" and said, "We celebrate the new year of all peoples, beliefs, women, laborers and young people who raise the struggle for equality, freedom and justice."

The co-chairs added: "Unfortunately, the authoritarian and totalitarian ideas that surround our lands continue to exist. Under these severe conditions, we welcome 2021 with great hopes with the strength we get from our culture of solidarity."

The statement continued: "With the strength and inspiration we have drawn from the centuries-long struggle for equality, freedom and justice in this land, we have raised the fight against the heavy oppressive conditions of 2020 with the same ideals and determination."

Buldan and Sancar further said: "’We will continue to be the representative of brotherhood, equality, honorable peace and democratic opposition against the AKP-MHP mentality, which disregards all democratic, humanitarian and moral values. We wish that 2021 will be a year of achievements. We salute the new year of all peoples, beliefs, women, laborers and young people who raise the struggle for equality, freedom and justice."
