HDP strongly condemns Erdogan’s remarks about co-leader Demirtas

People’s Democratic Party (HDP) strongly condemned Turkish president Erdogan’s remarks about HDP’s co-leader Selahattin Demirtas.

The Turkish president labelled Demirtas as a “terrorist” during a press conference in Hamburg, Germany.

HDP released a written statement condemning Erdogan’s remarks. The statement read: “Selahattin Demirtas is not a terrorist. He is the co-leader of HDP and he is representing will of millions of people. He is an honourable person who was a candidate in recent Turkey’s presidential elections. He has a special place in the heart and mind of the people of Turkey and is a politician who gave hope to his people.

Erdogan is openly intervening the continuing juridical process, he is dictating orders of the court. He is also clearly threatening the Constitutional Court.

Besides all of that, in a sentence before Erdogan labelled Demirtas a terrorist, he said “Turkey is a lawful country” and one minute later he said “In our country jurisdiction is independent." These are obvious lies and a truly lesson for all.

Such remarks are not acceptable for a president of a country. We strongly protest and condemn these remarks. History will show who is terrorist or not.”
