HDP MP Ömer Öcalan visits Şenyaşar family

HDP MP Ömer Öcalan visited the "Justice Vigil” carried out by the Şenyaşar family in front of the Urfa Courthouse. He said, “There is a great cruelty and injustice. Those who persecuted this family will be prosecuted in future."

For 49 days, Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar have been demanding justice outside the courthouse in Urfa. In June 2018, bodyguards and relatives of AKP deputy Ibrahim Halil Yıldız murdered Emine Şenyaşar's husband Hacı Esvet and her two sons Celal and Adil Şenyaşar. A third son, Fadıl Şenyaşar, who defended himself and his family, was sentenced to 37 years in prison on flimsy murder charges.

A confidentiality order was placed on the proceedings on the so-called hospital complex of murders. The three family members who were killed had been seriously injured in the attack by AKP deputy Yıldız's bodyguards in their store. Adil and Celal Şenyaşar were shot in the hospital, and their father was beaten to death outside the clinic by a mob of Yıldız's relatives. Camera footage of the incident exists, but is being withheld by the judiciary.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Urfa MP Öcalan visited Emine Şenyaşar and her son Ferit Şenyaşar on Monday. The deputy was accompanied by HDP Haliliye District co-chair Müslüm Arslan.

Speaking after the visit, Ömer Öcalan recalled that three people from a family were murdered while another member of the family was put in prison.

Öcalan said, “The family has been endorsed by many groups. They feel uncomfortable even despite this support. We condemn what was done to this family. One part of society is being persecuted. A person whose family has been exterminated is told to 'go and sit at home'. This is not acceptable. The Şenyaşars are seeking justice and truth. We will always be with the Şenyaşar family until the end.”
