HDP MP Hatimoğulları says CPT report must be taken into account

HDP Adana MP Tülay Hatimoğulları said that a dialogue should be established with Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan as soon as possible to enable peace, and added that the report by the CPT should be taken into consideration.

The isolation against Kurdish people's leader Abdullah Öcalan continues. HDP Adana Deputy Tülay Hatimoğulları, reacted to the Imrali isolation and emphasized that the isolation against Öcalan is unprecedented in the world.

Noting that the isolation of Öcalan had a very serious political meaning, Tülay Hatimoğulları said: "The fact that a leader of a people is subjected to such treatment is actually a way of punishing that people and subjecting that people to the same treatment. They turned Imrali Island into a high-security prison at an unprecedented level in the world. Even within it, a disciplinary crime is committed. There are penalties such as not allowing contact with lawyers.”

Hatimoğulları added: “Ultimately, Mr. Öcalan is important for many peoples, especially the Kurdish people; The theses he put forward are important theses. He is important for the Middle East land. Clearly isolation is a political decision. The Kurdish freedom struggle has been going on for 40 years and it is said to be a problem. Turkey says it is a “terror” problem, but the policy of the government is harming civilians. We can extend this concept in terms of its meanings. However, the struggle for identity of the Kurdish people, the Kurdish people's own autonomy, mother tongue and the principle of equal citizenship are obvious. Continue to call this 'terrorism' will mean that peace cannot be achieved in the region.”

Speaking about the attacks carried out by Turkey to eliminate the achievements in Rojava, Hatimoğulları said: "Mr. Ocalan's important thesis are not only for the left in Turkey, or the Kurdish people's organizations. His thesis is watched curiously by all people's organizations in the Middle East. The Democratic Confederalism is a leading model in terms of lifting the Middle East from its chaotic environment. Arab experts and Arab resistance movements are also examining and watching this model.

Turkey is implementing isolation in Imrali because they believe they can close the ideas of Mr. Öcalan in the island. But if we look around we see that Turkey failed. The Imrali isolation is actually breaking Turkey’s own law, the constitution. There is also a violation of human rights here. Attempting to take away all liberties from a person, including the rights that he should have in prison, means trying to squeeze the feelings, thoughts and ideology of all peoples who demand freedom, beginning with the Kurdish people, into a prison. But if we look at history in this country, we’ll see that nobody succeeded in locking into prison the will of freedom.”

The HDP Adana MP said about the CPT report: "What we need Mr. Öcalan's ideas to solve the Kurdish problem, which is the most important problem of this country to solve while on the path of democratization, through peaceful and democratic methods. Turkey has experienced a peace process. During that period, we experienced peace and calm in the country and it was very good for all peoples. It is necessary to return to that process urgently. I can say that it is essential to meet with Mr. Öcalan in order to solve this problem through democratic methods. Otherwise we will lose.”

Hatimoğulları added: “For a peaceful and dialogue-based process, Mr. Öcalan should be addressed as soon as possible. Views from both the CPT and European human rights organizations should be taken into account, and most importantly, a step should be taken from a place that believes that dealing with the leader of the Kurdish people will serve peace. In the third phase of our democratic struggle program, we started out with the slogan "Peace against war, freedom against isolation". We expressed how essential peace is, and how important it is in a period when war drums are louder in our region.

What we mean by freedom against isolation is that the demands of the people should be taken into account. We came together with the Kurdish people in Kurdistan during the 3-month working period. We met with Circassians and the other peoples of Turkey, Laz, Arabs, and of course we met with the Turkish people and everybody standing for peace. In all the meetings we have held, we have seen that we have been given this mission [to work for peace]. This was the expectation of our valuable people from our party for the solution of many issues in terms of democratization. This slogan, which is not limited to our campaign, will be an important part of our work in the future.”
