HDP delegation meets with Council of Europe officials in Strasbourg

A delegation from the HDP (Peoples' Democratic Party) chaired by co-president Selahattin Demirtaş continues their official talks abroad.

The HDP delegation comprised of HDP co-president Selahatin Demirtaş, deputies Leyla Birlik and Hişyar Özsoy and European representative Eyüp Doru has been having talks with European officials in Brussels since the beginning of this week.

The delegation continued their talks with officials from the Council of Europe in Strasbourg.

HDP officials were yesterday received by Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights Nils Muiznieks and Secretary General of the Council of EuropeThorbjørn Jagland.

Both meetings witnessed talks about the situation in Kurdistan, crimes committed by the AKP regime, pressure against HDP and the lifting of parliamentary immunities.

The talks that lasted an hour each were also attended by HDP's European Parliament representative Faik Yağızay.

According to information received from HDP sources, the HDP delegation voiced concerns over the current state of affairs in Turkey and North Kurdistan.

The HDP delegation demanded that the Council of Europe and international community remind Turkey of its responsibilities in order for the current situation to not reach a point of no return.

Welcomed by the European Parliament Rapporteur for Turkey Kati Piri on Tuesday, the HDP delegation met Wednesday with Federica Mogherini, High Representative of the European Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission; Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament; and Gabriel Zimmer, President of the Confederal Group of the European United Left - Nordic Green Left.

Thursday afternoon, the HDP delegation had a meeting with Johannes Hahn, Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations.
