HDP co-mayors of İkiköprü town in Batman jailed

While the co-mayors and accountant of HDP-run municipality in Batman’s İkiköprü town were imprisoned, 21 people were released on condition of judicial control.

In the scope of an investigation launched in the Batman province, gendarmerie forces (military police) stormed several houses in the city center and some villages on June 22.

As many as 24 people were taken into custody in the operation, including co-mayors Hatice Taş and Osman Karabulut who were removed from office and replaced by a trustee appointed by the government.

Procedures have been completed for all the detainees, of whom 14 were released yesterday and 7 today.

Both co-mayors and municipal accountant Bayram Özalp were remanded in custody after appearing in Batman Courthouse today.
