HDP: Agricultural workers killed by exploitation and negligence

6 people were killed and 12 others injured when a minibus carrying agricultural workers crashed into a tractor-trailer in Turkey’s central Konya province on Friday.

Peoples' Democratic Party (HDP) Labor Commission co-chair deputy Şaziye Köse issued a written statement about the 'accident' in which agricultural workers died in Konya.

In the written statement, Köse said: "Every year, dozens of agricultural workers lose their lives for a bit of bread in the agricultural sector, where exploitation is most intense. Agricultural workers who lost their lives in Konya are neither the first nor the last, unless measures are taken."

Agricultural workers, reminded the HDP, are forced to migrate to different parts of the country in order to get enough to live. “They are obliged to work under unbearable conditions – said the HDP executive - and don’t benefit from health services: They live in poor physical conditions, not having a proper nutrition and shelter conditions."

Köse added: "All officials are responsible for these new lost lives."
