HDK on Öcalan’s call: We will take the necessary responsibility

In a statement on Öcalan’s ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’, HDK expressed its readiness to take the necessary responsibility.

The Peoples' Equality and Democratic Congress (HDK) made a written statement on the historic ‘Call for Peace and Democratic Society’ made by Kurdish leader Abdullah Öcalan two days ago.

“We consider the call made by Mr. Öcalan on February 27 through the İmralı Delegation to be of vital importance for the construction of a Democratic Society. Therefore, the Call for Peace and Democratic Society is also an appeal to the whole society and its organized forces,” the HDK said.

Stressing that the peaceful resolution of the Kurdish question is key to democratic transformation, the HDK said: “With this awareness and determination, we in the Peoples' Democratic Congress state that we will take the necessary responsibility for the construction of a political climate where differences are seen as richness, the freedom of expression is secured and the obstacles to the right to organize are removed. We underline that all necessary steps must be taken by the relevant parties for a culture of democratic reconciliation to prevail. We invite all political circles, the movements of labor, women, youth and ecology, and peoples and belief groups to take the responsibility required by the process in order for the wisdom of peace to be socialized.”
