HBDH commemorates Hrant Dink: We will destroy fascism and racism

HBDH marked the 14th anniversary of the murder of Armenian journalist Hrant Dink and said, "We promise that we will achieve his dream with our struggle to destroy the fascist state and win freedom.”

The Executive Committee of the People's United Revolutionary Movement (HBDH) released a written statement on the 14th anniversary of the murder of Agos Newspaper editor and columnist Hrant Dink. Describing Hrant Dink as a symbol of the liberation steps taken by the peoples by uniting, HBDH said: "The history of the Turkish Republic is also a history of massacres and genocides."

"THE WORD ARMENIAN IS USED AS AN EXPRESSION OF HATRED AND ENMITY"

Pointing out that the Armenian people were targeted specifically within the massacre policies, the statement continued: “The fascist Turkish Republic has used the word "Armenian" as an element of hatred and enmity in its own ruling language for the sake of the establishment and continuation of the dominant Turkishness, alongside the massacre and genocide it has committed against this people throughout its history. It has also tried to place this word as an offensive element in the consciousness of the large masses it poisoned. This element is still used for the survival of the dominant Turkishness and continues to be one of the basic pillars of Turkish chauvinism.

The phrase “Excuse me, Armenian” (referring to Recep Tayyip Erdoğan remarks in a TV program: “Some called me a Georgian. Others called me even, excuse me, an Armenian in a shameful way. I am a Turk!”) and everything else expressed in this language, is totally the fascist Turkish state itself. That is why the approach to the Armenian people is the benchmark approach of fascism and racism in the land we live in, just like the approach to the Kurdish people and the Kurdish question. And one cannot do anything against racism or fascism in Turkey and Kurdistan nor be anti-fascist without embracing the "We are all Armenian" slogan uttered by thousands since 19 January 2007.

“WATER FINDS ITS WAY IN THE SOIL”

Hrant Dink, one of the few Armenian people who had been massacred for decades in this land, was assassinated by the state. After telling the story of an Armenian woman who had been separated from her lands, defining her situation as 'water found its way in the soil', at an event he had attended a while before his murder, he said: 'We Armenians have eyes on this land. Because our root is here. But do not worry, we do not want to take these lands, but only to be buried under it.

“WE ARE EXPANDING THE WAR FOR EMANCIPATION”

Today, in those lands to which Hrant and millions of laborers are this much dedicated, a deep-rooted movement is rising. The oppressed peoples are taking firm and powerful steps towards their liberation. With each passing day, the united revolution runs towards its goal with stronger steps in the struggle to overthrow fascism and create freedom. The oppressed peoples and workers unite under the flag on which the hands of the united revolution are waving. HBDH is expanding the war for the freedom of the oppressed peoples and the emancipation of the working people.

We commemorate Hrant Dink with respect on the 14th anniversary of his murder and promise that we will achieve his goal through our struggle to overthrow the fascist state and win freedom with his march to immortality.”
